Welcome to Philip Melillo Health and Fitness
The purpose of this site is to educate the public about exercise, nutrition, and its benefits. It is a result of years of my personal experience and experimentation, and numerous articles written by respected and trusted individuals and organizations devoted to health and fitness. I was inspired to create this site as my way of giving back to the community and sharing with you the philosophy that I subscribe to. It may differ from yours.

You will not find fads or gimmicks that we are bombarded with in the media. Although males and females of all ages can benefit from the articles contained here, I place an emphasis on the 50 years of age and older group, typically referred to as seniors, as they can experience more health benefits from exercise than any other age group. Being a senior myself, I have a personal interest regarding the aging of America and the affect fitness as on one's well being. Today in the United States obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and other debilitating diseases are on the rise. We address the problem by subscribing medication and medical procedures. Health care costs are out of control, and this will only get worse as the baby boomers grow older. Through an active lifestyle that includes effective and safe exercise programs as well as other health related regiments, these issues can be significantly reduced. We can't stop the aging process, but we can sure delay it.
I grouped the topics into three main sections - Exercise Science, Exercise Technique, and Exercise Programs. Exercise Science deals with the scientific basis for exercise. Exercise Technique contains articles describing proper exercise technique. The Exercise Programs section contains articles on safe and effective goal-specific training programs. I also include links to other sites and suggested read material. I will do my best to include bibliographies and references. My goal is not to plagiarize, but to inform.
If this site inspires just one person to change his or her lifestyle from a sedentary to active one, I'll feel that my goal has been accomplished. So, whether you are 18 or 80 and want to improve your athletic performance or just your overall health and well being, this site has something for you.
If you are new to an exercise regime or have any health issues or symptoms, I can't stress enough how important it is to make an appointment with your health care provider before proceeding with any exercise program.
Happy reading. I hope you enjoy the site.
